Having analysed the Communist party and the Government documents related to school education and their impact on its development in the Sumy region, it has been established that the state educational policy in 1939-1952 was ideologically oriented on the development of the Ukrainian school system on the basis of Sovietization and Russification.Among the achievements of this period were growth of the school network, improvement of the schools supply with textbooks, teaching staff, increasing the number of school children and eliminating the overload of students with homework and community focused extracurricular services, etc. It was established that during the period under study the decisions of the Central Committee of the CP(b)U resolution of 14 August, 1930 «On general compulsory education» of school-age children were not fully implemented in the Sumy region. Among the negative aspects of the establishment of the appropriate educational process in the region, the following were identified: delays in paying teachers' salaries in many districts, failure to supply teachers with bread, inadequate preparation for the school year in terms of school renovation and fuel supply, and so on. Apart from that, the Government's decision to return teachers who did not work on their specialty was poorly implemented. Consequently, some districts were not fully staffed with teachers. It was also established that in 1939–1952 the number of Russianlanguage schools in the region gradually increased. It was also found out that during the period of study both teachers and students were ideologically influenced through both the educational system and the media. ER -
