To define the same phenomenon and events, many researchers frequently use common but not identical terms and definitions. Moreover, in the first Post-Soviet decade, Ukrainian scientists had to “reconsider” the understanding of nationalism deformed from history/political science by the Soviet ideologists. Essentially, the first scientists of the independence period had to start rehabilitation and recovering of the term “nationalism” itself. The article aims to solve the problem regarding terms and definitions in the research of Ukrainian nationalism practice, as well as to distinguish its universal definition. In the research, the analysis of traditional approaches regarding this issue was studied, as well as modern visions of the problem of western and domestic humanities was distinguished. Particularly, the search of answers on the highlighted question risen by the activists of Ukrainian nationalist underground movement and OUN members as direct participants of Ukrainian nationalism realisation during the struggle for the creation of independent Ukrainian state was analysed. In the result, the use of the term “Ukrainian nationalist movement” was substantiated and the pattern of its development stages was proposed. The simplified pattern if the Ukrainian nationalist movement development will be the following way: uncontrolled, organised, residual. Chronological frameworks of each stage are very indefinite as far as they are based on the regional nature of the nationalist movement at first. ER -
