@article{Kuznets_2018, title={Kyiv metropolitanate vicaries of the XIX – beginning of the XX centuries: official duties as a manifestation of the administration of the diocesan management}, volume={1}, url={https://istznu.org/index.php/journal/article/view/40}, abstractNote={<p>The article is dedicated to describing the duties evolution of the diocesan bishopric assistants – vicaries which became a reason of opening new vicariates at Kyiv metropolitanate. It is noted that the first vicary chair with a title «Chygyrynski» was opened in 1799, the second one which was titled «Umansky» in 1874, the third one «Kanivsky» in 1885, the fourth «Cherkasky» in 1910. But the chronology of vicary chairs opening did not define the order of metropolitan’s assistants (the first, the second, the third, the fourth). The vicarious primacy varied according to the responsibilities shared among them.</p> <p>It is noted that clear determination of position duties of diocesan bishopric assistants, their distribution and redistribution among them justified the expansion of the church activities as a public institution and the priority of the objectives under their control. The article shows that the official duties range evolved from the insignificant Metropolitan’s orders execution which the first vicar had to perform in the Metropolitan’s absence, to clear set of the whole list of affairs that were intrusted under the responsibility of each of the four vicars. The increase of these affairs, their clear distribution among vicars testified both the expansion of the Orthodox clergy activities as well as the establishment of the control over the highest officials in the eparchial management structure. The declared idea of increasing the number of the Metropolitan assistants in order to release him from administrative and managerial functions was not implemented in practice.</p&gt;}, number={51}, journal={Zaporizhzhia Historical Review}, author={Kuznets, Tetiana}, year={2018}, month={Dec.}, pages={271-278} }
