The analysis of the official celebration discourse and commemorative practices made it possi ble to investigate the spreading of the myth of «reunification» among the population of the annexed Ukrainian territories. Based on understanding the mass celebration as a universal method of Soviet propaganda, the author has defined the anniversary’s ideological, symbolic, consolidation, legitimation, and mobilization goals. The article has examined various forms of Soviet cel ebration discourse’s dissemination, including official party documents and political leaders’ speeches, mass media, agitation-propaganda campaigns, sci entific and educational events, exhibitions and museum expositions, jubilee academic and literary publications, cinematography, cultural activity, and vi sual agitation. The primary official narratives spreading by propaganda have been identified: the decisive role of the Bolshevik Party and its leader Stalin in the Ukrainian state forming and the Ukrainian lands’ reunification, the sup port of the Russian people in those processes, and the betrayal of «Ukrainian bourgeois nationalists» as the greatest enemies of Soviet Ukraine. The author has revealed the peculiarities of celebration rituals in the western Ukrainian territories, which reflected one of the anniversary’s crucial goals, namely the demonstration of the joyous life of the Soviet Ukrainian people and gratitude for the «liberation» of the Ukrainian lands. Particular attention has been paid to the characteristics of the commemorations, which were supposed to con solidate the myth of «reunification» in the collective memory.</p>}, number={58}, journal={Zaporizhzhia Historical Review}, author={Drozdov, V.}, year={2022}, month={Nov.}, pages={242-253} }
