The main attention was paid on deviant forms of students’ free time spending. In particular, the specifics of students’ alcohol drinking, gambling, and visiting of brothels were highlighted in the article. The author points out that the deviant leisure of students was a form of hedonistic relaxation for them. Students were inclined to new experience and they had a lot of possibilities in the city to try different forms of officially forbidden leisure, for instance, to visit a brothel. These types of students’ activities contradicted the official ethical and moral standards. First of all, this type of leisure was against religious rules. Nevertheless, a society treated deviant students’ behavior indulgently. From time to time, some members of the students’ community received different penalties or were expelled from the university, but it was easy to return to studies after some time. Students received the most serious punishment for political activities. Sometimes local authorities encouraged students to some form of forbidden leisure. They supposed that hedonistic pleasures would turn away students from politic activities

The author admits that students’ forbidden leisure was one of the forms of a protest against inspection control and an element of student corporate culture. For example, they had special carouses with particular rituals which helped to unite students’ community. From the other side, students were influenced by noble culture and tradition of gambling they adopted from the local nobility part of whom the majority of students were. Deviant leisure also was a very important part of students’ daring demonstration. Students tried to show their privileged status through different deviant forms.</p>}, number={52}, journal={Zaporizhzhia Historical Review}, author={Samchuk, T.
