It reveals the particular features and main directions of the foreign policy of the Soviet Union over Iran, carried out during 1972 – 1991. The author, guided by the chronologically-problematic method distinguishes the periods in the Soviet historiography and their main thematic focus as the following: the second half of the 1970s, “the phase of active intervention of the USSR in the affairs of the Gulf through overcoming the consequences of the energy crisis”, 1980 – 1986 “justification of the historical community of interests of the Soviet-Iranian cooperation based on their achievements of the revolution”, 1987 – 1991 “ the political science analysis of the development of Iran, as a subject of the foreignpolicy activity of the Kremlin”. At the end of the research there is the conclusion that the Soviet historiography presents ad-hoc studies that do not fully reflect the whole essence of the USSR policy towards Iran during the period of its modernization and post-revolutionary formation.</p>}, number={44}, journal={Zaporizhzhia Historical Review}, author={Pylypenko , V.
