Abstract

The biography of school teacher Olena Petrivna Voryk is revealed in this article. In 1946, the Soviet state security authorities accused O. Voryk of participating in the Organization of the Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and «parricide». The main source for the study was the O. Voryk’s archival-criminal case, which is stored in the Archives of the Security Service of Ukraine in Lviv region. The scientific novelty of the research is that the archival-criminal case is used for the first time as a historical source to clarify the circumstances of O. Voryk’s activity in the OUN’s underground.

The research is based on biographical (prosopographic) and limological approaches, on the principles of historicism, systematics, science. The authors used general scientific (analysis, synthesis, generalization) and special-historical (historical-genetic, historical-typological, historical-systemic, documentary heuristics) methods.

As a result of the research, it was established that O. Voryk from 1944 took an active part in the activities of one of the grassroots branches of the OUN in the Staryi Sambir district of the Drohobych region of the Ukrainian SSR. In early 1945, she was appointed curator of the «women's network» of the Staryi Sambir district OUN’s provid (leadership). At the beginning of 1946, the Soviet state security authorities accidentally detained one of O. Voryk’s associates. As a result, a significant underground network was exposed and O. Voryk was repressed. The Military tribunal of the troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs at Drohobych region sentenced her to 15 years of hard labor in concentration camps. In the mid-1950s, under conditions of de-Stalinization, this punishment was reduced. The O. Voryk’s family was also repressed and deported to Russia’s Chelyabinsk region. It was there that Olena Petrivna settled after her release. Only with the collapse of the USSR and the formation of an independent Ukrainian state she did achieve rehabilitation.
