Abstract

The paper about Cherkasy oblast natives as participants of 1917-1921 national-liberation struggle of Ukrainians for building of sovereign and independent state is the first in the author’s cycle of papers concerning one of the most contradiction and the most tragic periods of Ukraine’s newest history. The place of famous warriors in that struggle, the meaning of their personal contribution, the measure of their personal professional responsibility for the results of combat operations are researched by the author by means of the biographic method and prosopography due to theorization, developed and implemented in humanities by famous Ukrainian scholar, Ya. Dashkevych (1926-2010). The paper concerning the life and management activity in the field of struggle with enemies of Ukrainian statehood, Havryl Makarovych Bazylsky (25.03.1880-17.10.1937), the native of the village Sokolivka, Uman district, Kyiv province (now – Zhashkiv region, Cherkasy oblast) starts the cycle of the papers. Peculiarities of future warrior personal development, motivation choice, family, origins of entourage, personal qualities, directed on the achievement of the purpose are studied. Essential meaning of ethnic and religious elements in the life of the future warrior are defined. H. M. Bazylsky starts his civic service while he had joined the army that further opened the way to get military education and professional officership. Later on all those factors were integrated into solid alloy of knowledge, skills and proper battle experience. Conscious transfer to Ukrainian army allowed him to use experience for quick solving the tasks from the top military echelon as he was regiment and divisional commander. He went through the internship and emigration period honorably.
