Abstract

The article examines the military-technical phenomenon of the last Cossack era. These are the Zaporizhzhya boats of the Black Sea Cossacks. After the destruction of the Zaporozhye Sich in 1775 and the prohibition of the name of the Zaporozhye Cossacks, the term was revived in boats built according to Cossack traditions. In the absence of sufficient naval forces in Russia, the government recreated the Cossacks under the name of the Cossacks' Faithful Army, also known as the Black Sea Cossacks. His experience was during the next war against the Ottoman Empire 1787 - 1791 over the Northern Black Sea. Based on historical sources, the author investigates the construction of Zaporozhye boats in the Kremenchug shipyard for the Black Sea Cossacks. Methods of theoretical modeling and comparison prove the general adequacy of the basic model of the Cossack boat of the 17th century and theoretically modeled Zaporozhye boat from 1787 to 1791. The author concludes that It was the Ukrainian tradition of shipbuilding, which predetermined the similarity of distant models in time, became the basis of a series of ships under the generalized name "сhaika". The top its evolution were Cossacks boats Black Sea Cossacks. At the state-owned shipyards, they were built exclusively by freelance workers. The Ukrainian tradition of shipbuilding in the Southern Dnieper existed as long as there was a public demand for it and its carriers, which passed it on from generation to generation. They were the Cossacks and their heirs the Black Sea Cossacks. The findings are relevant for the study of Ukrainian history, understanding of the viability of shipbuilding traditions of the Zaporozhye Cossacks, its military and naval experience, their use in the fight for the coastal regions in the process of forming the territory of Ukraine.
