Artists and Guild Institute in Early Renaissance Italian Cities

Abstract

The paper focuses on special features of status of artists (painters, sculptors, architects) in early Renaissance Italian cities within guild system of production organization which dominated that period throughout Europe, and its broad influence on city‟ social life and government. The paper offers answers on questions: which guilds artists were member of, which was their status in these guilds, how it influenced on their work, was it obligatory for artist to be a member of guild, what was the main differences of artists‟ guild status in some cities.
