Abstract

The article analyzes archaeozoological materials of the ancient settlement Koshary near Odessa in Ukraine. The study of the archaeozoological collection showed that the majority of animal bones belonged to the domestic species with cattle prevailing followed by horse, sheep and goat, pig and dog. Apparently, stock was reared for meet and milk purposes. Hunting played an insignificant role in the economy of Koshary inhabitants. At the same time, a great interest was provoked by a discovery of donkey’s bones, as this species of the domestic animals is quite rare in the North Black Sea region in the 4 – first half 3 century B.C.
