Abstract

The article is devoted to consideration of problems of formation of the policy of memory and revision of history on the example of the past of Bulgaria during the Second World War. The text is about building strategies for future relations with neighboring states and deficiencies in creating common memory and history. The article also raises the question of whether, there is an ideal form of tolerant relationship between the states of the world.

One of the scale tragedies, that fit the history of the XX century and united the international community, is the phenomenon of the Holocaust. The memory of the Shoah has no boundaries of a single country, and therefore every state is an environment where the topic is relevant and active. The only sing, that distinguishes the population of different territories in the formation of the memory of the phenomenon of the Jewish Tragedy – this is the circumstances and conditions, that inhuman massacre of victims during the Second World War. The purpose of the article is to show gaps in the formation of a policy of memory. The history of Shoah in Bulgaria is controversial field, where scientist can`t agree on the creation of the foundation.

During the Second World War, within the «Old Borders» of the country, 48 thousand Jews were rescued. But today this fact is perceived by many experts in different ways, because it is not possible to finally determine the motives and the role of state power in the process of saving the victims. Equally confusing is the situation with the involvement in the deportation of almost 12,000 Jews from the newly affiliated regions of Vardar Macedonia and Thrace.

The theme of «salvation» became an element disseminated by the Bulgarian governments after 1989 to demonstrate to the world the dignity and membership in Bulgaria to European destinations. In the state was formed the image of a «anti-Semitism-free country», where the main argument was the thesis, that during the Second World War Bulgarians, unlike others, managed to save 48 thousand Jews and thereby prove the ability of the citizens of Bulgaria to react painlessly to the integration of other peoples.

But, the opposition, which is formed around the allegation of Bulgaria as a «anti-Semitism-free country», is alarming about explaining the provisions of the Holocaust to the younger generation.
