THE RUSSIAN-UKRAINIAN WAR 2022: LESSONS FOR TAIWAN

Abstract

After the beginning of the military aggression of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, the problem of Taiwan intensified significantly. De spite the fact the PRC still maintains neutrality: on the one hand, it recognizes the sovereignty of Ukraine, and on the other hand, it does not condemn the actions of Russia, the possibility of an armed invasion of Taiwan is real. Poli ticians and scientists have already begun to compare the situation in Ukraine with the Taiwan problem, since they have a number of common features and the possibility of further Chinese intervention in the Republic of China, similar to the «special military operation» of the Russian Federation.
This work is devoted to a comparison of the features of modern events in Ukraine and in Taiwan in the context of the military invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine. The article analyzes the peculiarities of the territorial claims of the Russian Federation to Ukraine and the People’s Republic of China to Taiwan; the conditions for the emergence of separatist movements in the South and East of Ukraine and in the People’s Republic of China (Taiwan). The author singles out the common and distinctive features of separatism in Ukraine (South and East) and the People’s Republic of China (Taiwan), and also considers the possibilities of China’s implementation of the Ukrainian scenario in Taiwan against the background of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2022. The peculiarities of the confrontation between the Russian Fed eration-Ukraine and the People’s Republic of China-Taiwan are studied; the possibility of an armed invasion of the People’s Republic of China on the terri tory of the Republic of China was analyzed.
As a result, it was determined how the leadership of the Republic of China studies Ukraine’s experience in resisting armed aggression by the Russian Fed eration, and what lessons can Taiwan learn in the event of a full-scale aggres sion by the PRC.
