Abstract

The paper deals with the problem of origin and development of official archives in Ancient Greece. It is shown that with rise of democracy in the Greek poleis archival affair began to develop actively and gradually separated from the office work. In V BC state archives became the official institutions that retain the most important part of the polis document, drawn up in its entirety prototype of the modern state archive fund. Documents in the archives were systematically organized and widely used in political and public life, as well as in conducting historical research.
