Jagiellonian and Habsburgs: struggle for the imperial crown (1519)
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to examine one of the most important events in European history of XVI century – Election of the emperor in 1519, which had defined the trends of the development of the region in the early modern times. In this paper author made an analysis of the course and outcome of the struggle for the imperial crown between leading Western monarchies. One of the main problems of this article is singling out the features of foreign relations between the dynasties of Polish, Hungarian and Czech Jagiellonians, Austrian and Spanish Habsburgs and French Valois. Also author attempted considered diplomatic vicissitudes and features of the electoral process in 1519, given in it the exceptional role of the specific Polish factor.
